This print project showcases how Otentik Brand optimized a challenging 2-part NCR checklist application for a client who worked closely with a print vendor, while also supporting internal employees who were less familiar with print design specs, paper selection, finishing, and binding requirements.

Project Overview: Custom NCR Checklist Printing

The client required a premium checklist solution that combined operational functionality with high-end branding.

The requested format included:

• Custom 2-part NCR carbonless forms

• Canary (yellow) + white NCR set

• Front sheet: transfer NCR paper

• Backing sheet: 14pt cardstock

• Full-bleed, full-color print

• Gloss laminated finish for a full-image design

The client’s goal was to keep it as a single glued 2-set NCR checklist while maintaining the premium look of a full-image gloss laminated backing.

The Challenge

While NCR forms are typically produced on lighter, uncoated stock with standard padding compound, this project required a more complex production method due to the combination of materials and finish.

Key Issues:

• Gloss lamination created a non-porous surface, making adhesive bonding difficult

• 14pt laminated cardstock was heavy and prone to curling, especially when padded

• Padding glue repeatedly failed to hold due to warping and separation

• Producing single glued sets created loose forms, wasted sets, and handling inefficiencies

• Additional internal stakeholders needed guidance on print specifications and production constraints

The Solution (Combined)

Otentik Brand partnered with the print vendor to redesign the structure while preserving the client’s creative intent, improving durability, and reducing waste.

✅ 1. Restructured the Product into a Stacked NCR Booklet

Instead of producing loose, single 2-part NCR sets, we recommended a stacked NCR booklet format. This kept every checklist in one place, improved usability, and eliminated the risk of misplaced or separated sets.

✅ 2. Added a Firm Backing Cover for Stability

To control curling and provide a more durable writing surface, we incorporated a cover backing that stabilized the booklet and supported the laminated cardstock without compromising the design.

✅ 3. Reinforced the Binding with Heavy-Duty Padding Compound

To solve the adhesive failure caused by gloss lamination, we applied:

• increased padding glue / padding compound

• controlled curing time

• production alignment reinforcement
  This ensured the booklet held securely while maintaining a clean and consistent finish.

✅ 4. Optimized Material + Finish for Best Image Reproduction

The client’s creative goal required a premium, full-image finish. We confirmed that:

• uncoated stock did not produce acceptable image quality

• gloss lamination provided the sharpness and color vibrancy required
  By redesigning the structure, we kept the gloss laminate and ensured it performed operationally.

Because this was a non-standard NCR application, we provided internal guidelines for:

• proper storage and handling

• minimizing curl over time

• best practices for tear-off and daily use
